Total tab for federal investigation for former city officials could reach over $2.5M
After already spending nearly $1.5 million on legal fees for a group of former city officials under investigation, San Diego taxpayers are set to pay an additional $1 million or more. A deal was reached this week that determined that the city will be responsible for all the legal fees in the case, but will not be responsible for the defense costs. The original charge claimed that five city officials did not adequately make known the retirement and pension debts, and the charge is now been dropped to, “negligent misrepresentations or omissions,” says The San Diego Union-Tribune.
